Carpentaria Marine Services has a tight and effective company management structure, which is spearheaded by Managing Director Vance Wallin. Details of key personnel are below. We employ a dedicated team of permanent staff and administration staff, engaging skilled casual labour on an as needed basis up to 70 employees, depending on workloads. All team members are carefully selected for their skills and experience, sharing our vision of compliance, safety, quality and delivering work on time and budget.

Vance Wallin is also well known across Cape York for the extensive volunteer work he has undertaken. This includes the establishment of the Turtle Camp, located at Janie Creek Mapoon, offering in-kind services to not-for-profit community groups on Cape York and being the President of the Western Cape Chamber of Commerce. His volunteer work was recognised when he was awarded Citizen of the Year for the Weipa community in 2012.
Living in Cape York Peninsula and Far North Queensland has provided Sam the unique platform to enhance employment and capability, by creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In addition to her role at Carpentaria Marine Services, she is also a Director of Remote Industry Solutions. Peter is an accomplished manager with decades of experience in maritime logistics, business development, operational logistics and management. Recognised for his strategic foresight and ability to optimise complex operations, Peter has consistently driven growth and innovation across the organisations he has worked with. His leadership style focuses on fostering collaboration, ensuring compliance, and delivering measurable results in challenging and remote environments.
Peter’s extensive career includes roles such as General Manager Queensland Operations at Sea Swift, where he managed 260 staff across logistics, marine freight and fuel services. He spearheaded the development of strategic business plans, established key performance indicators and nurtured stakeholder relationships with government agencies and local councils. His expertise extends to fuel trading, financial management and regulatory compliance, honed through roles like Commercial Manager and Company Secretary at Sea Swift and its affiliated businesses.
A passionate advocate for efficiency, service excellence, sustainability and triple bottom line performance, Peter has also contributed to the development of new market opportunities for Northern Queensland and the Torres Strait region. He combines his wealth of experience with a hands-on approach to leadership, and is a valued addition to the Carpentaria Marine Services leadership team.
Simon Mann is a seasoned Marine Manager with extensive experience in operations management, systems management and industry regulation and compliance. He has a proven track record in improving operational, safety and financial performance, with an eye on innovation and striving for excellence in the delivery of marine services and operations.
He specialises in overseeing vessel safety systems, engineering maintenance and project execution, ensuring efficiency in all aspects of marine operations. Simon has managed diverse teams, developed robust safety cultures and delivered successful outcomes for large-scale projects in construction, logistics and salvage. He also has a proven ability and flexibility to adapt plans to meet changing operational requirements and conditions, essential for marine services being conducted in sometimes challenging and changing conditions.
With a career spanning over 15 years, Simon’s expertise is far reaching. He has a special interest and experience in marine towing, salvage management and operations, and has strong engineering and technical problem solving acumen. Simon drives innovation to meet industry standards and client expectations and thrives in challenging and remote environments.
