Carpentaria Marine Services (CMS) is proudly Australian owned and operated by Managing Director Vance Wallin, supported by a skilled team of professionals. CMS has the capacity, capabilities and demonstrated experience to successfully deliver our range of specialist marine services across Australia’s north-eastern coastline, including Cape York Peninsula, Gulf of Carpentaria, Torres Strait Islands and beyond, including Papua New Guinea and international destinations. All activities are coordinated from our head offices in Cairns and Weipa, and undertaken in strict accordance to our best practice and ISO certified Quality Assurance, Health and Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
At CMS we are committed to our team and enriching the regional and remote areas we work in, providing training, employment and skills development for local and Indigenous people.

Read MoreManaging Director Vance Wallin started Weipa Hire / Carpentaria Marine Services in 1994. His initial intent was to assemble a fleet of machinery, appropriate to the projects and needs of the Cape York communities and make it available for hire. Over the years the business expanded to meet growing client demands and became known as Carpentaria Contracting and Carpentaria Marine Services, delivering land and marine based services. In 2025 there was a separation of the two entities when Carpentaria Contracting was sold, allowing Vance and his team to focus on the marine side of operations.
Vance remains at the helm of Carpentaria Marina Services and is ably supported by his executive management and leadership team. He remains engaged in all levels of operation, and understands the social, economic and commercial realities of working across the Cape and the Gulf and into the Torres Strait Islands and Papua New Guinea. His strength is in recognising opportunities and delivering bespoke solutions and quality outcomes, for this team and his clients.
