Carpentaria Marine Services is invested in helping to build capacity in the Indigenous Communities of Cape York Peninsula, the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Torres Strait Islands, and enhancing the financial and social wellbeing of residents, with training programs and employment opportunities. To guide our activities in this vital area of operations, we developed and implemented an Indigenous Employment Policy, which provides the framework for consistent implementation and alignment with our values and operational goals. We believe meaningful employment not only improves outcomes for individuals, families and communities, but also strengthens Indigenous culture, heritage and values.
The intention of our Indigenous Employment Policy is to foster potential and expand expertise of individuals and communities. It prioritises the development of skills, and enhancement of self-esteem, and directly links these efforts to our business and workforce.
It includes contracted deliverables through the federal Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, to provide work experience placements for a minimum of Indigenous CDP participants, sourced from the communities of Aurukun, Cherbourg, Coen, Doomadgee, Hope Vale, Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Mapoon, Mornington Island, Mossman Gorge, Napranum, Northern Peninsula Area (includes Bamaga, Injinoo, New Mapoon, Seisia and Umagico), Palm Island, Pormpuraaw, Woorabinda, Wujal Wujal) and Yarrabah.
Through the implementation of our Indigenous Employment Policy, we prioritise the following commitments:
